Brasstacular

Ever since I could remember, I always favoured brass over any other metal. In my opinion, it is superior in beauty and in property than its cousin bronze. And, far superior than its components, zinc and copper.

Its gold-like appearance does radiate opulence, yet doesn’t has that ostentation which golden furniture would present, especially in an urban loft setting. For the ones that are not affected by aesthetics, brass has many properties which, surprisingly, have become even more à propos in these 21st century pandemic times. It has antibacterial properties, often killing a wide range of bacteria within two hours of less. If you pay attention when entering historical buildings, you will notice that many of them still bare brass handles, knobs, elevator buttons and even countertops.

All that being said, it has always been very clear that our new kitchen island would be obviously be brass – by all means necessary!

We had the pleasure to work with my favorite partners in this project – Steam Cuisine (located in Montréal, Canada). They were highly skilled and professional from start to finish and offered outstanding client service. We felt valued. Their plans were precise and their techniciens were meticulous at taking measurement. Sounds easy? You would be surprised on how hard it is to find in this industry.

It is also important to note that choosing where to place your cooking plate, dishwasher, wine fridge, kitchen sink and cooking plate is very important to determine when planning. Steam Cuisine even helped us determine in which cupboards our items could be place in based on personalized usage. They think of everything.

As a client, thanks to them, that part of the project was a much appreciated relief from the chaos and nonsense we had to endure from our other partners. They were a delight and we highly recommend them.

Let’s not forget to mention, for the environmentally conscious people out there, 90% of all brass recycled! Stylish AND green!

As for the countertop, brass would have made it quite … special. Hehehe. Therefore, we decided to go with our favorite rock: marble. At another atelier, my husband spotted Italian diamond grey slabs and we both fell in love at first sight.

We will dedicate a separate proper post for the lovely countertop and the story behind it.

In the meantime, enjoy the reveal!

Oh! I almost forgot. We love (red) light therapy over here! So, of course, our kitchen also had to have a submarine mode, made possible thanks to our smarthome system.

Don’t you love the various spectrum of light that brass adapts to? It remains spectacular or should I say: BRASStaculor!
